New structure for Denmark’s national kendo team.
New structure for Denmark’s national kendo team.
The Danish kendo federation intends to reorganize the existing national and talent team structure during the first half of 2022.
The plan is to create a talent- and national team management group under the leadership of a managing director.
The managing director will oversee the day to day for the talent and national team in DKF, as well as the manager for the national team coach and talent team trainers. The managing director will be appointed by DKF’s board of directors. The board will also be responsible for selection of the national team coach and talent team instructors. The same structure will be used for iaido and jodo if in the future they choose to start national teams as well.
All positions are purely voluntary and unpaid. The board will soon be releasing information on criteria for the roles, so that anyone who is interested can see what sort of competencies the board is looking for.
The board will first appoint a managing director and since all the decisions about the national team structure will affect him, he will have a say in how the structure is formed. Therefore the entirety of the details about the new national team structure cannot be released until the new managing director has been appointed.
Talent Team
DKF’s planned structure is for the talent teams to become self-sustaining groups with their own instructor and training regime.
The instructor shall work directly with the national team coach, in order to give talent team members the greatest possibility of becoming national team members.
For practical reasons, the group will be split geographically into Talent Team East and Talent Team West.
East will include the entirety of Zealand, Amager and also Bornholm (if there is a time when a club is started there).
West includes Fyn and Jylland.
National Team
The national team (elite team) will have a dedicated national team coach whose only focus is on the national team.
DKF’s intention for the national team is that the level is set quite high. The goal is to try to be in the top third of European and World Cup tournaments for the adult division, as well as to go after medals in the junior European Cup.
The national team will NOT be split by gender. There will be no difference in requirements for fighters based on age, sex, or handicap. Everyone will have an opportunity to achieve their true potential.
